I understand that many people are tired. Tired in a sense that it seems that sometimes your vote doesn’t matter. Some people are tired of feeling like they’re being pandered to in order to fulfill someone else’s motives and personal goals.
Many people feel tired because voting can take too long, or they're constantly confused about when and where they should be voting, when they should request absentee ballots, and the list goes on.
Well, let me start by stating what purpose of the Board of Elections serves and then it may become clear why this Primary, being held on May 24th is so important.
The purpose of the Chatham County Board of Elections :
“functions as the superintendent of elections and conducts primaries and elections in accordance with State law. The Board performs all services and functions necessary to support the election process. The Board establishes boundaries for voting precincts, secures facilities to serve as polling locations for these precincts, recruits, selects, hires, trains and assigns personnel to serve as poll officials. The board also conducts qualification for candidates, develops ballots for elections, acquires, maintains, prepares and delivers equipment used to conduct elections, publicizes notices as required by law and maintains elections records(Chatham County Board of Elections - Elections Home Page 2022).”
In layman’s terms, the Board is responsible for the public knowing voting precincts, securing polling locations for those precincts, recruiting, hiring and training poll workers/ officials and qualifying candidates, developing ballots, and ensuring the delivery and functionality of equipment used for elections and maintaining election records.
That being said, when you spend long hours in line, or accidentally go to the wrong polling location because you didnt receive notification of polling location changing, or when you have to spend hours in line due to malfunctioning equipment-
The Board of Elections is responsible for rectifying those issues!
Knowing this information, you can see why your vote for these four individuals ( 2 republican 2 democrat) is detrimental to a pleasant swift experience when voting in primaries, special and general elections.
I am asking that you trust me.
I am asking that you look at my propensity for excellence and my ability to demonstrate accountability.
I am asking you to look at my background as a mother, wife, business-owner and working class citizen to understand that my background is transparent. I have no ulterior motives for this office.
My goals are simple-
To make the election process transparent-
I want you to know when you vote, where you vote and what your deadlines are when impending elections arise.
I want you to be notified well in advance when your polling location changes and I want you to be up to date on the local and state laws that change regarding elections.
Lastly, with the continued risks the current pandemic has brought to light, I want to do everything in my power to prevent you from having to wait in long lines on election day.
I am asking you to vote for Trust on May 24th, 2022.
I am asking you to vote Trish Brown for Chatham County Board Elections.
